| Le
Chaudron -
A
chaudron is a large cauldron.
The house is named
after the old cooking pot which was originally to be found
in the fireplace of St Lucien's 16th Century manoir and which is
now hanging in the kitchen of our gîte
The
house is in a peaceful hamlet (Le Grand Mont Alix) just
two kilometres from our own home. It has recently been fully renovated
to high standards, while maintaining the character of a traditional
Normandy longère. All the accommodation is on the ground
floor and part of the charm consists of the low beams to be found
throughout the house, especially in the kitchen. We have to warn
tall people that they must always be aware of them!
The dining-kitchen is fitted with gas hob and electric
oven, large fridge and microwave and the washing machine has its
own separate area. The double bedroom has en suite
facilities and there is a separate bathroom for guests in the twin
bedded room. Every room is fitted with independent electric radiators,
so that you are free to choose the level of heating that suits you
in each part of the house.
The comfortable sitting room has an open fire and there
are television, DVD/CD and radio players. It leads directly onto
a good-sized terrace with views over the surrounding countryside.
There are spacious gardens at the front and back of the house. On
days when you want a break from doing the "tourist things",
you may like to put your feet up and relax in the garden, perhaps
with a lunch which you have grilled on the barbecue. |
