Among other things,
they clean up local markets to set an example to their seniors; they plant
flowers and trees; they clean water sources for the benefit of their villages;
they help the elderly. Many of them are learning about vegetable gardening
and are able to show family and neighbours how to work in a more efficient
way. We have been amazed to see how much their elders are prepared to
listen and to learn from these young enthusiasts!
Helping people to help themselves
It is not our intention to keep things going indefinitely with our donations.
The aim is to help the groups to become self-sufficient. As well as gardening,
their leaders are teaching them other skills such as tailoring, woodworking,
brick-making and traditional basket-making.
If we can raise enough money in 2005, we want to finance the formation
of three poultry projects. The children will help in the construction
of the units and learn about the care of the birds. The money they raise
from the sale of eggs will keep the project running.
The skills that these children learn are so important. Most of them will
not have the chance to go on to secondary schools. At a young age, they
will have to learn to fend for themselves.
Are you prepared to help us to make a difference in their lives? We promise
that every £ donated, every euro that we receive, will go straight
to where it is needed. We make NO DEDUCTIONS to cover our costs. We meet
them ourselves.
